Sam Yarwood - 25th September 1988 to 6th April 2011 image Sam Yarwood - 25th September 1988 to 6th April 2011

On the 6th April 2011, the devastating news was received regarding the untimely passing of former Camp Hill, Moseley, Greater Birmingham and North Midlands Player, Sam Yarwood.

Sam started his Rugby Career as a Camp Hill U11 Player in 2000, ironically, his RFU Registration was dated 25th September 2000, his Birthday!

Sam continued to play for The Club until the end of his U17 Junior Season. When, after 7 Seasons at “The Shrine”, Sam left us to progress his Rugby career with our local neighbours, Moseley RFC.

Fortunately for Camp Hill, Sam returned to The Club in its 2008/9 Season, when, on 25th October he made his 1XV debut against Stratford-on-Avon. During his time with the 1XV, Sam was also studying at Cardiff University, and, as you would expect from him, each Weekend, he travelled back to Solihull to visit his Family and play with his Mates. Sam’s last appearance for Camp Hill 1XV came at Home on 17th April 2010 against Dudley Kingswinford, where, he scored two outstanding Tries.

Sam played twenty two first team matches for Camp Hill 1XV and scored thirteen tries.

Sam had the justifiable reputation as a devastating finisher. His prolific reputation continued this Season at Bournemouth RFC, where he had scored 27 tries in their National Three South West campaign.

Over the years, Sam was rewarded with numerous Honours, he started his representative career with Greater Birmingham U13’s, and then North Midlands U14’s, his success continued with appearances for Greater Birmingham Seniors, North Midlands U19’s and U20’s, and The Midlands U20’s.

For those of us who had the privilege to know Sam, there will be many tales and memories to share about his exploits both on and off the Pitch. (especially off the pitch!)

If you were never fortunate enough to meet Sam, we can assure you that you have missed a rare treat.

Details of the forthcoming Funeral Arrangements, will be published as they become available from The Yarwood Family.

GB can only extend our deepest condolences to The Yarwood Family and his partner Rachel; Sam was a credit to you all.

We are hoping to put select a strong GB squad this year with a broad representation. With that in mind we are hoping to put together a selection game (midweek/floodlit) with the match squad chosen from that game.

There is no limit to the number of nominees but we would ask that you give careful consideration to your choices and ensure that they are happy to be included and will be available on the dates above.

The trial game will include food and beer for the players (obviously limited to budget) and we will do our utmost to ensure that it is a positive a progressive experience for all concerned.
